[Photo Album] Schmoo, aka Party Pants

During the summer of 2000, we decided it was time to go get some more cats at the Orleans Parish Humane Society, a horrid place that didn't seem all that humane. Schmoo (about 2 yrs old) was the featured cat. Normally I shy away from the Cat of the Month cause I figure they're very likely to get adopted. But Schmoo had been there in that cage for 3-4 mos, much longer than all the other cats. They just couldn't bring themselves to put her down, cause she's so cute and supposedly had a sweet disposition (an act she puts on for strangers). She came to them a pregnant stray and all of her kittens got adopted. Her little paws waved desperately at us from her cage. So we chose her along with Scoobie. We got her the next day as she had to stick around and get spayed. She came to us with feces caked on her hind end from the operation, plus an ear cyst, fleas, and tapeworm. How humane is it to keep animals caged up and suffering from all those problems? But I guess there's not much they can do without funds. Schmoo seemed to be quite happy to be out of that cage - she's been extremely active and playful ever since. Soon after we got her I came home one day to find her laying in a pile of catnip, which she'd somehow managed to find and fetch from its place on top of some crowded shelves. She is very charming amongst guests, but has no trouble biting or scratching us full force for the slightest infraction. Scoobie liked to pick fights with her but she was definitely the dominant one - if she wanted something he'd back off.

Likes: rubber bands, catnip, monopolizing the bed, staring at you until you correctly guess what she wants
Dislikes: thunder, being held
